Tricky situation, fault from indigo clearly they should not have allowed to board, easy escape is to book the flight from Garuda or Singapore air or any other airlines flying from same terminal, and than go to airlines counter for boarding pass and handover the baggage tags they will happily take care of your baggage.

Whenever you collect your baggage at an international destination, you are going into their mainland, even though it's wothin the airport, you are legally entering their coubtry. so will require visa. Many destinations do not require transit if you do not need to do check in. So the best idea is always look for tickets with no self transfers and check the visa requirement for the country if visit n transit as these may change frequently.

Your this video would be very useful to many first time traveller's. But one thing fir sure that you are lucky this happened to you in Singapore only where staffs are very professional. Had it been anywhere in middle-east you would have been in more troubles. Very good you described this in detail. I have been traveling world wide for last 35 years but never experienced like this. Hey, very sorry something like this happened to you. Just wanted to add a point here that while booking flights (especially through skycanner) you get an exclamation mark which signifies that that particular flights requires ‘SELF TRANSFER’. That means you have to check out, collect luggage and check it in again. Most connecting flights which are both self transfer doesn’t have the re checking in of bags thus visa might not be required. Am not 100% sure but i think this might be it. Best of luck and safe travels for your future ❤
